I still have some pretty adorable vintage dresses from my pre-conversion/pre-modesty days. Dresses that were the fruit of hours of back breaking labor spent digging through racks upon racks of clothes at my favorite thrift and consignment stores. I assure you, these are no ordinary dresses, girls! These dresses have a story! They have a rich and colorful past! And despite not having worn them for years I just can’t bear to part with them. You understand, don’t you?
Mr. Beguiles: Betty, can I throw away these huge (his word, not mine) plastic bins filled with old clothes already? We could really use the space in the garage.
Betty: Throw them away? Why on earth would you suggest such a thing? Are you trying to hurt me? I’m planning on wearing those!
Mr. Beguiles: It’s been almost ten years since you’ve opened these!
Betty: That’s a lie! I was rummaging through them just last week!
Mr. Beguiles: Did you find anything you needed?
Betty: Yes!
Mr. Beguiles: What?
Betty: Everything in there!

And so it goes. The good news is that there is relief in sight. A return to marital harmony will soon be our because I have just discovered something fantastic, something that will allow me to bring my treasured dresses back into rotation! (I know you’re reading this, baby, and I know you’re happy for me!) What is this miracle item I speak of? Well, I’ll tell you! It comes care of Jennifer Jensen Young of Vintage Hem. Jennifer had the brilliant idea of creating slips with ruffled hems in a variety of styles to extend and enhance skirts and dresses that show a little too much leg. I love it! Not only are these slips practical, they’re absolutely darling! And the prices aren’t half bad either. I thank you, Vintage Hem. Mr. Beguiles does, too. I just know it.

These are great! Glad you don’t have to give up your cute dresses.
What a great, great, great idea! Never would’ve thought of this and I’m the same way with my clothes.
Can she make some cute tops too? I need more neckline and upper arm coverage!
super cute!
Oh I so understand about those cute dresses you can’t part with. I have a few of my own. However, my immodest issues are less with the hemlines (I’ve always tended to like long sweeping skirts) and more with plunging necklines and spaghetti straps. But as for wearing them again, I’d have to lose more than a few pounds. There’s also a few inches of bust line I gained that I don’t see going away any time soon.
Maybe someday I can find a way to modify some of them to work for the new improved me.
First of all let me say that I love your blog. I found it off of another blog today and it’s just what I needed to read. All about marriage and modesty. I hope you don’t mind but I put a link to your page in my blog today. I am so thankful to have found your page. These are areas that I struggle with but I love all your links and all the great things your writing. I am truly hooked!
Hi Betty,
Another great post and an awesome idea. I’m so glad that you get to keep your dresses! Have a wonderful week!
Thanks so much for posting this! I have a few dresses that I'm in love with but never wear because the hemlines are too short. These are perfect!
