I think I'm a day or two late but I couldn't resist taking part in Emma's Commitment to Loveliness Fair. I love the idea of focusing on five small things we can do each week to bring beauty into our hectic lives. Here are my five resolutions for the week...
~One~
Wash all of the sheets in our house, pull them out of the dryer while they are still warm, make up the beds and spray them all with a bit of my favorite linen spray.
~Two~
Buy fresh flowers to brighten up our home. We've been having a lot of gray days around here and while I actually kind of like overcast skies it might be nice to add a touch of color to our home.
~Three~
Paint my toenails. I often neglect to do this during the winter months but it always puts a smile on my face. I think I'll go with red since I know it's Mr. Beguiles favorite.
~Four~
Play music. I always forget how much it helps me to have music playing as I go about my daily duties. It can be so easy to neglect little things like this when life gets busy. I find that music has a way of lifting me up and carrying me through the most mundane of chores and the most stressful of moments so it's well worth taking the time to do this.
~Five~
Keep the lipstick handy. As I mentioned below we're selling our home. While it will be worth it in the long run it does require that I spend more time each day cleaning than I normally would so that our house remains "show-worthy." Several times in the last week I have caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror looking like something the cat dragged in. I have to tell you, though. My hair can be a mess, I can have circles under my eyes and stains on my shirt but I won't even care if I have on my dark red lipstick. Call me crazy but it really does lift my spirits. I think I'll start keeping my lipstick in my apron pockets.
Little things, such as lighting a candle or setting out flowers, can have such a hugely positive impact on you and your family. Days can often be so full of busy work and difficulties. Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers! I'd love it if you would drop me a comment if you participate in this fair so that I can stop by your blog and be inspired by your small acts of loveliness (
be sure to drop one at Emma's place, too)! Thank you for being such a gracious hostess, Emma!

I'm afraid the closest my home gets to loveliness these days is when I actually sweep up the food the baby dropped on the floor rather than letting it lie. But I do appreciate seeing others who have energy make the effort. Well, I appreciate it but also I'm a bit jealous because It's hard to think about adding small touches of pretty when the living room carpet is about six days past the point where I couldn't stand it any more and I just have to vacuum and yet somehow I still haven't been able to do so because naps and meal prep keep getting in the way.
I do like the playing music suggestion. I think I can do that!
This is a great idea! I've added my own five "commitments to loveliness" that I want to put into practice this week.
Thanks for your writing, it's so inspiring to me as a newly-wed. :)
Music is a good motivator for me, too, but I always forget to turn it on, too. My hubby usually would do that for me, so I guess I'll have to work at remembering it on my own (for the next few months, as least!). Thanks for some new tips for me to try, as well. :o)
P.S> Thanks for the encouraging comment on my blog; I was wondering when your little bloggy break would be over and kept forgetting to stop by and check in on you again! I'm glad you're back for now :o)
