Books on Love and Marriage

All this talk about love and marriage inspired me to flip through some of my best-loved books on the subject. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites. Anyone else have any good recommendations? I’m always looking for a good excuse to run down to the bookstore!

By Love Refined: Letters to a Young Bride

Chosen and Cherished

The Power of a Praying Wife

Mom to Mom, Day to Day and My Cup Of Tea

Three to Get Married

The Love Dare

The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands

And added thanks to the glowing recommendations of Elizabeth, Margaret and Audrey

Covenanted Happiness

Covenanted Happiness by Msgr. Cormac Burke. I wrote about it a little bit here: http://ebeth.typepad.com/reallearning/2006/05/to_improve_ours.html

Oooh. EXCELLENT recommendation! I’ve been meaning to read this. (And in fact, I just happen to have this post of yours printed out and tucked away for inspiration, Elizabeth. It’s one of my all-time favorites.)

Thanks, ladies. You’ve just given me my wished for excuse to run out to the bookstore! I’m not betting on them having it but a girl’s gotta check, don’t you think? ;)

Betty! You can borrow my copy of Covenanted Happiness :) But please don’t let that stop you from your bookstore visit!

Thank you, my dear Audrey! I would love to borrow it…after I fail to locate it at B&N. ;)

I have been reading Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggeriches. He's not a Catholic author, but has some great insight. http://www.amazon.com/Love-Respect-Desires-Desperately-Needs/dp/1591451876/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236541819&sr=8-1

    Great post!

Hey Betty, just found your great site through Tweet Catholic; my wife is going to love your site when I show it to her. Great list of books thus far and my two cents are this, read something about Men for instance. Wild At Heart, though not a Catholic book, does give a pretty good window into the soul of what men are looking for and I think women might enjoy reading it. God Bless,

I third Covenanted Happiness–it is my favorite book on marriage and I am a huge fan of Msgr. Burke! Though I am unsure of your global position, Msgr. Burke will speak in DC and Northern Virginia this April! He’ll be the keynote on the conference for feminine identity http://www.eppc.org/conferences/eventID.145/conf_detail.aspand and will also speak on ‘what is the personality of your family?’. see related paper on his site: http://www.cormacburke.or.ke/node/631
This is my first peek at your blog and- thank you-I will definitely return!
