About a year ago I decided to try my hand at sewing. I had never sewn a stitch or touched a sewing machine in my entire life. Over the last year I’ve tried to teach myself the basics by undertaking simple sewing projects: a knapsack for my adventuring boys here, a dress for my two year old there and an occasional skirt for myself. Eventually, I’d love to be able to sew my own dresses but I’m taking baby steps, girls. Baby steps. When I saw this cute tunic pattern from Amy Butler I knew I had my next project. Isn’t it adorable? Stylish, modest, and a bit more complicated than a skirt but (hopefully) not quite so challenging as a dress. I love how they show it with a cute pair of cuffed jeans underneath, too! So wish me luck, gals! This should be…interesting? I’ll keep you posted!
Do you have any favorite patterns or fabric designers? I’d love to hear about them!

very cute. I am so intimidated by sewing clothes. Kudos to you. You must post pics when you finish.
This is so cute! I’ve heard good things about Amy Butler. I’m definitely not a sewer, but would love to know how this turns out!
This is so cute! I’ve sewn a few patterns in my day, but nothing too hard. If this is purty simple, let me know! I might just jump on the bandwagon!
How pretty! If I can ever finish my current project, I might want to give that a try!
Betty, I think you will love this project. Amy’s patterns are not too difficult at all. I have made several of her things and have not been disappointed yet. Her fabric line is wonderful as well. Very quirky and contemporary with a little vintage feel. Good Luck. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
I can’t help you with patterns. In fact, sewing is one area of domesticity (okay, so there are few other areas as well) that I fail miserably at and am thankful for my mom’s tailoring talents.
I just wanted to say how I impressed I am that you’re self-taught in the sewing department. Good luck!
I just made a new apron and tried it on over my jeans and it made me want a long tunic like this! I’ve only tried to make myself a dress once and it didn’t turn out well. I’ll be very curious to see how this pattern works out for you.
Very pretty! I can’t sew, although I’ve ruined several peices of fabric proving this to myself….
That is really cute. I would love to try that pattern.
I am so excited to have found you! I just launched a blog called cute.covered
Do you mind if I link here?

I love pretty much all things Amy Butler. When I have made further progress on my interminable fitness journey, I might try that tunic pattern.
I am making a bag right now using a Lazy Girl Designs pattern and it’s not too complicated – lots of pictures. I need pictures. I also make a lot of things from internet tutorials. Oh, wait – I bookmark the internet tutorials, late at night, with the baby, but then never make the lot of things…
