Now it's pretty much a given that unless you steer clear of the pool this summer, you are going to be showing a bit more skin than usual. That's okay. While we should always be striving for modesty, it is perfectly acceptable to wear clothing appropriate for the activity even if it means being slightly more exposed.
I know there is swimwear out there that resembles a dress but quite frankly, if I have to wear a dress in the pool I'm just going to stay home. That having been said, I don't believe we should be wearing Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikinis either. Lucky for us, there are plenty of adorable vintage-inspired swimsuits that I think strike a perfect balance between usability and modesty. Here are three of my favorite sources for retro bathing suits...

reVamp
I bought my bathing suit at Revamp (see here for a review I posted last year). I'll warn you in advance, these suits will stretch your budget but the quality is excellent! One thing I love about reVamp is that they will custom-make your swimsuit if you like (they also have standard sizes available). It takes a bit more time but it's well worth it, in my humble opinion.

MyBabyJo
I'm dying to get one of their Classic Sheath swimsuits. They look so comfortable and are so classically vintage. I can't stand it!
Their one-pieces are some of the most feminine and flattering I've found. I just love the ruffle on the bottom of this suit!
Happy sunning, girls!

ADORABLE!!! They look so feminine and sweet!
Oh my gosh I love these so much. OK, I just said "love" when all day long I'm telling my kids, "We don't love things...we like them." LOL. I'm so glad to know that suits like this still exist! Thanks for sharing!!
Wow... I "LOVE" these suits.. and yes, you can love material things. I need one for the beach this summer!
I actually lost 22 lbs. this winter so I'm super excited!!!
FYI, I used this program: http://tinyurl.com/newabsworkout
I finally got myself a new swimsuit last spring... it's the A-line Swimdress from http://www.esther-williams.com/swimwear.htm
I just love the vintage-style swimsuits... they cover up a little bit more than lots of the typical stuff, but I still feel exceptionally glamorous. Now I'm just waiting for the warm weather to come...
Thanks, Mrs. Beguiles, for such a fabulous array of loveliness. I think I ought to have lived during the 1940s and 50s; they certainly knew how to dress women. I am personally leaning toward the LolitaGirl suit with red cherries on it, but I'm not sure if I am that daring.
Check out this YouTube video of 1952 suits, for a giggle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IvBjOwmiI0.
So cute! But I don't think this style would look good on me :(
