Can we look at these in Lent?
I know! I feel a little guilty! LOL.
Those ARE beautiful.
Oh good heavens, I'm in love!
I gasped audibly at that first picture. Oh my goodness me – how gorgeous!
SO pretty! I love vintage dresses. I used to collect and wear them in my single days … I kept a few when I got married, because I just couldn't part with them … These "new" ones are just gorgeous!
Love the third one from the bottom. So fresh!
I gasped too!!
Absolutely gorgeous! If only they weren't so expensive!
Hello, Lovas! They are gorgeous! SWOON!
My mother was an accomplished seamstress; unfortunately I never took the time to learn from her. So my question is: what makes the skirt part of these dresses pouf out? Is it the way the fabric is gathered or is there other fabric underneath? They are lovely dresses.
Sigh. You should have NOT posted these during lent…now I'm coveting. Why are they so expensive?
Sigh. I know. They are expensive. I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment.
I'm not sure they are overpriced, though. I can't afford them but the prices seem pretty fair for handmade, original pieces. I'm no seamstress, though. Maybe one of you can weigh in. How many hours of work do you think dresses like these would require? Is the fabric expensive?
RFP: I believe we have petticoats to thank for the lovely poufing.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!
Betty – Yes, I'm sure the price reflects the quality. BUT, I found something for all of us who can't afford these beautiful dresses. Go to ebay and search: "BOHO 1950's rockabilly VINTAGE style dress".
UNDER $30!! My kind of dress =)
oh my goodness, LOVE the blue one and the white one…
The puffy skirt is due to several things: 1. there is a LOT of fabric in the skirt and 2. it's gathered to a very small waist. That will make any skirt flare. But 3. there is definitely a petticoat at the very least, and maybe more than one, or even some sort of crinoline working it under there.
I too gasped at the price, but that was mostly by reflex. When I stop to think about it it starts making more sense. I'd guess that there's around 5-10 yards of fabric per dress, depending on the size, and if her fabric is regular quality (which is way better than most off-the-rack clothing you'll find), you're probably looking at a *starting point* of $80-100 for materials alone, and quite possibly more (especially if the skirt infrastructure is built in).
Then there's the sewing time. She says in her intro that she's an experienced couturier – so expect to pay professional rates for her time. A dress like that would probably take me (my mom taught me to sew) around 10 hours to sew from start to finish, just as a rough estimate. She may be able to do parts of it faster, but couture details also take longer on the other end.
Also, she offers to sew the dresses to your measurements, which means she will have to adjust the patterns beforehand. She knows what she's doing, so that would probably not take her as long as it would someone like me, who is self-taught and thus looking at lots of trial and error, but that's also a professional skill you're paying for.
Sorry for the mega long post!
Sooo pretty!!
