10 Facts About Me and My Better Half

1.
When I was 18 I went to see a touring band with two of my girlfriends. While they were on stage we took turns identifying the band member we thought was the cutest–as teenage girls are wont to do. ;)

I was the only one who ended up marrying her pick.

2.
I moved to Alabama to be with him when I was only 19. My parents loved that.

3.
He asked me to marry him one month into our relationship. And he meant it, too!

4.
But then he broke up with me to discern whether he was being called to enter a monastery. That went over well. ;)

5.
We were (finally!) married when I was 22. God is good.

6.
Our third child and first daughter was born in the car on the way to the hospital.

7.
He writes me love songs and lets me sleep in the mornings…

8.
And I bake him pecan pies and lasagna.

9.
Our song is “Love is Here to Stay,” sung by Ella Fitzgerald. Together we’re going a long, long way…

10.
Our tenth anniversary is this October 6th. The last decade has been the happiest of my entire life.

Easily.

Your turn! Tell us 10 interesting facts about you and your better half–either in the combox or over on your own blog! I can’t wait to read your lists!

Take care, girls!
Signed, Betty

P.S. If enough of people participate I’ll create another link round-up soon. :)

    2. I was 35 and he was 36.

    3. His aunt, a nun, was my uncle's 1st grade CCD teacher in NJ. Paul was raised in Wisconsin, I in NJ. How cool is that?!?

    4. Neither of us had been married or engaged before. We waited a LONG time to find each other.

    6. We got engaged six months after "meeting" on-line.

    7. I am the oldest in my family, Paul is the baby. It makes for an interesting dynamic sometimes.

    8. He gets the kids breakfast every morning so I can sleep or just get ready for the day.

    9. He gives me sweet cards for no reason at all other than to tell me he loves me. I indulge his sweet tooth with yummy, now gluten-free, treats.

  50. Allie says:

    1. We currently live four hours apart for grad school. However, his (practically identical) twin brother goes to my grad school. On the off chance I see his brother around campus and am not thinking, it's weird. :)

    2. I'm from VA and he's from OH. One of my HS friends from VA and one of his HS friends from OH met through college and are getting married. Considering my school was so big, it's quite the coincidence!

    3. We too play video games as dates! Mostly Final Fantasy.

    4. We're both graduate students in computer science; I want to teach, he wants to do industrial research.

    5. We both love to drive. As such, this can lead to a lot of "but you drove last time!" when we make big trips. :)

    6. That being said, he can't stand driving in traffic. Coming from outside of DC, I find it thrilling.

    7. We love writing cards to one another. Our personalities really shine through in the cards we pick out and the things we say.

    8. I like to travel and be in exotic/busy places. He likes days at home, preferably in the Midwest.

    9. He's very traditional, and I'm, um, not. ^_^ We adapt very well to each other though, and tend to recognize which traditional/eccentric things are non-negotiable with each other.

    10. We started dating only three months before graduating undergrad, and although it was dubious whether a long distance relationship could be handled with such a small foundation, I'm delighted to say it's been going strong for over two years!

  51. Katarina says:
  52. Colleen says:
  53. MJDMom says:

    Fun. Here are mine:

    1. I first heard of my husband when my brother reported to me, "Hey, I finally found a guy that can take all your crap!" True story and the rest is history.

    2. We first met at a party but he ignored me for another girl, who he claims he couldn't get rid of nicely!

    3. Through no fault of his own he's only .500 in attending births. We had one superfast one (didn't even make it to the car!) and he was deployed for the next one. #5 is due in September so hopefully he can raise his average.

    4. I have never met a man who loves kids and babies as much as he did and I didn't even know that until after I married him.

    5. He brings me flowers every time he heads to the local grocery store to pick up a few things. (I do the regular shopping.)

    6. I almost hung up on him during his phone call without getting a date offer even though we had already talked for an hour. I just got nervous and decided I had talked too much. He still laughs about it.

    7. I wore flats on our first date because I couldn't remember how tall he was. (In reality he's 6ft 3" and I am 5ft. 10"- plenty of room for rockin' the heels!)

    8. We thought we'd have a ton of boys but so far it is mostly girls (3 to 1).

    9. We both laugh uncontrollably when the other laughs at their own (lame) jokes.

    10. We'll be married 10 years this August. We were married exactly a month on 9/11…that certainly changed things for this military family. Next depolyment will probably be next year.

    How fun!

1 My husband and I met online

2 When we were engaged, he lived with my parents for a semester (while I lived an hour away). It was weird having my fiance tell me how my parents were doing when we'd go out for a date!

3 My husband is 18 inches taller than I am

4 I am 8 months older than he is

5 He proposed three times (long story!)

6 At one point in our dating relationship I broke up with him. The very next day I had to be rushed to the emergency room & he drove two hours to visit me anyway :)

8 When we got married he said his favorite dinner was frozen pizzas. I had so wanted to be a gourmet-cooking-wife and was crushed. But once I got pregnant I was happy to remind him that he liked frozen pizzas!

9 When we were dating, I started crochetting my husband a blanket; after we got married I found out he is so warm-natured that he never EVER uses blankets.

10 Wow, this is hard. Um, we were married on my patron saint's feastday. Pure coincidence.
